May 23:
The subject for our virtual Photo Crawl in May was "Texture as a Subject." The challenge is to compose a picture where the surface texture is the main focus of the image. I think the rotting fence post with the hills showing through is about as good a symbol for the failing shelter in place rules. I also had fun looking for dramatic lighting without bringing my own.
I've been exploring some YouTube channels offering photo challenges during the quarantine. Some of them are as simple as using some of the more obscure features in my camera. I paln to add some of those to this gallery in the coming weeks, if they are interesting.
I had two photo-safaris planned for the latter part of March. When the State of California enacted a policy of Shelter in Place, those plans were put on indefinite hold. Though some parks remained open, most of the places where groups tended to gather were strictly policed to assure social distancing.
I started taking my camera with me on my afternoon and evening walks, or whenever I needed to get away from my teleworking. My goal was to make a portrait of my community during the lockdown.
Unfortunately, many of the 'news photos' I would like to take would require me to violate social distancing, which will only prolong this miserable quarantine.
In any case, this is what I've seen so far.
